A little Rant

I have been receiving a few emails since I have started my blog which I choose to ignore, the reason for this is 'It doesn't mean ll that much too me what others think regarding a book'

OK so up until I have read a book I avoid all reviews regarding it as when I start a book I start it fresh like its the first book I have ever read, once I have read, written and posted my own review on 'the book I have just read' I like to surf and find out what others felt about the book and 9/10 I hear this

'It was too much like twilight'
'It resembles crescendo'

and so on and so forth blah blah blah...so what if there are a few similarities, I notice them but that doesn't entitle it to a bad review I judge a book purely by what I think about it not what or how others feel or felt when they read the book. You could tell me a book was really bad but I will still give it a shot and see how it is and if I don't like it then I will say so, but it takes alot for me to really dislike a book.

So the next to my readers pick up a book I advise you to think of it as the very first book you have picked up, new book, new author and nothing else matters....don't put it down because there are similarities to another story you have read if you are liking it, give it a shot and finish it you may just be surprised to how much you do like it!!!

  1. ugh! RIGHT!?! I thought i was the only one that felt this way. I get so annoyed when books are constantly compared to Twilight! Look at an individual book for it's own merits... and stop comparing it!

  2. I totally understand what you mean! I look on Amazon for reviews for some other books I'm hearing good things about, and all I see is 'it wasn't better than Twilight!' or something to do with Twilight! I love the Twilight Saga, but seriously what is the need to compare other awesome books against it? Why do they have to be compared at all? This isn't a popularity contest!

LOL! This post hits home. I've compared at least two other novels to Twilight in the past few months, but I hope I also explained quite thoroughly why I thought so.

Some time ago, I decided to stop writing formal reviews and to find other creative ways to write about books. (The Character Connection and Locus Focus memes let me zero in on characters or settings, and I make Top 5 Lists and Three-Legged lists.) My favourite alternative strategy is to compare books to other books. I get my best results when I have three seemingly-different books together, but sometimes I have to be obvious and have only two. Like Hush, Hush and Twilight . . . or Fallen and Twilight. =P

  4. I agree with you to a point. You shouldn't constantly measure every book against one that you particularly loved. On the other hand, there's a lot of cloning going on lately. In YA particularly, and especially in paranormal, it's a lot of vampires and werewolves and love triangles. How can you NOT compare that to Twilight? There's a lot of trying to jump on the bandwagon and some make it and are fantastic and some fall short.

  5. I hear what those are saying who choose to review a book with comparisons but im sure you dont do it with every book you read...I get the similarities but i just feel it needs to be free and fresh wiwth each book with twilight and all those other big hit books thrown right out the window

I recently read and reviewed By Midnight and after I wrote my review I surfed the net to see what others thought and it got a bad review of a few reviewers for 1 line that was similar to a twilght line.......we all need alittle inpiration and so what if it was alitte like that one line the whole book dont need to be put down expecially as that is a good book.

Just my 2 peas! dont wanna hurt no ones feelings or nothing

  6. I so agree. The Mad Scientist is mad about hearing comparisons with Twilight. *sigh*

Also a reason why I do not read synopsis.

  8. I agree with you also. I've all but stopped reading synopsis' because of this exact thing. I try to base my thoughts on the book itself NOT the book it has similarities to (if it has any.)
