Friday Series Love is my feature where you can find out what series are hot....unbeatable.....fantastic....can't stop reading reads.....

This week I'm going to share my love for The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare, If your love all things paranormal but what something different then these are the books to pick. I loved The Mortal Instruments, from the moment I picked up the first book I was hooked. There was something about the danger, action and love that kept me interested and there wasn't a point I didn't want to read more.

What's it all about?

They call themselves Shadowhunters.

The Shadowhunters obey the laws set down in the Gray Book, given to them by the angel: their mandate is to protect our world from the interdimensional parasites they call demons, who travel from world to world, razing and destroying everything in their path. Theirs is also the task of keeping the peace among the warring Downworlders: the human-demon crossbreeds we know as warlocks, vampires, werewolves, and faeries.

In their duties they are aided by the mysterious Silent Brothers. Their lips and eyes sewn shut, the Silent Brothers rule over the City of Bones, the necropolis below the streets of Manhattan that holds the dead bodies of slain Shadowhunters. The Silent Brothers keep the archival records of ever Shadowhunter ever born. They also watch over the Mortal Instruments, the three divine objects the Angel Raziel gave to his children. One is a sword. One is a mirror. And the last is a cup.

For a thousand years, the Nephilim have protected the Mortal Instruments. But that was before the Uprising, the civil war that almost tore the Shadowhunters' secret world apart. Though Valentine, the Shadowhunter who started the war, is long dead, the wounds it left behind have never healed.

Fifteen years have passed since the Uprising. It's August in New York; the streets blistering with heat. Rumors run rampant through Downworld that Valentine is back, at the head of an army of Forsaken warriors.

And the Mortal Cup has gone missing...

UK Cover Revealed - The Dark and Hollow Places by Carrie Ryan

I'm so excited for this book, and to finally see the cover makes me feel like the release date is looming nearer(even if it is released in March 2011)

Book Review - Zelah Green by Vanessa Curtis

My Name is Zelah Green and I'm a cleanaholic. I spend most of my life running away from germs, dirt, and people. And I'm just about doing ok and then my stepmother packs me off to some kind of hospital to live with a load of strangers. It's stuck in the middle of nowhere. Great. There's Alice who's anorexic. Caro who cuts herself. Silent Sol who has the cutest smile. And then there's me.

The Review
OK so I haven't read a book that would fall in the category of self discovery and Self Perception because I'm an emotional soul and I know I would be a blubbering mess by the end. I was pleased that this wasn't a book that had me blubbering but had me engaged and curious with the occasional smile and giggle.

Vanessa writes this book with sweet simplicity which explores the subject matter with humour and empathy allowing you to flow from page to page with great understanding. The Queen of Clean is what it is, a simple, clean and quick read, not lingering on one point even though it explores self-harm, anorexia, attempted suicide, depression, cancer and alcoholism, she is never patronising or employing self-improvement trash.

I really have to give credit to Vanessa as she has hit all the right spots with Zelah Green and I am really looking forward to turning the pages in the sequel Zelah Green - One More Little Problem, for anyone who has not read this I would recommend it especially for all teens!

My Review

My Grandma never left me alone when I told her I had a Harold Carlton book for review 'oh I love him....my favourite book of his is Labels...oh once I picked it up I couldn't put it down' she went on and as my nan has never been wrong about a great author I trusted her word and waited until the girls where away so I could start reading!

Harold Carlton manages to combine his inside knowledge of fashion with the brilliantly described main characters at the same time as throwing in humour and atmosphere which perfectly evokes Paris at the time.The story is set in the late sixties going in to the seventies. It is a stunning portrayal of what life in retro, post-war, pre-seventies hippie must be like. I was amazed with this unexpected read which felt like a tribute to the legendary Mademoiselle Chanel. It left me comparing notes with the history of her, although some facts are changed the basic idea of how Chanel must be like, and how a fashion house operates are convincingly real.

Overall I agree with my Grandma Harold is a great writer but this novel wasn't for me I felt it was a little too long even though I enjoyed the characters and the plot there where many parts I found myself skimming across. I do recommend this book to anyone with a love for Sex and the City and The Devil Wears Prada it is a 'Fashionista read'(and believe me when I say I'm no fashionista I just LOVE The Devil Wears Prada).

My Review
 
OK guys I'm real sorry for this but it needs to be said 'this book is so freakin brilliant' Id heard so many great reviews around the web and had to order a copy and when I also received a copy for review I was over the moon I mean talk about a sign that this book HAD to be read.
 
From the moment I turned the first page I knew it wouldn't take me long to indulge in The Dark Divine, weaving through the pages after not reading the 'spoiler reviews' with the question lingering on my tongue 'What is Daniel?' and I was so grateful the mystery continued...when I finally found out, I was hanging on the edge of my beanbag with what would unravel next *sigh* Bree Despain I heart you!
 
For a debut novel Bree Despain knocked my socks off and hit a high note with my list of favourite Authors. The Dark Divine is engaging with its brilliant plot and faultless mystery keeping you wanting more and more until the very end and although its not a cliff hanger it leaves the option open for a sequel which I'm hoping there is as I'm not ready to let go of the characters just yet. If you haven't already read The Dark Divine then I highly recommend it.
